Madonna in unoriginality shocker

Every so often you get a little shock of recognition: “Hey, This was completely stolen from That!” I guess it shouldn’t be surprising when the same producer is involved, but still.
Here’s one that got me, though. The surprise isn’t that Madonna was aping Beth Orton on Ray of Light. If you’ve heard Trailer Park, you already knew that. What’s more surprising is Madonna’s source was more likely the little-known Superpinkymandy, which was a limited edition 5000 copies, Japan-only release.
It’s a perfect pairing really since neither Madge nor Beth have much vocal range to speak of (which doesn’t change the fact that I’d gladly spend time listening to Daybreakerthan the tortuous American Life). We could drop “Yesterday’s Gone” (c. 1993) right into Ray of Light (c. 1998) and you might never notice a different artist had come on the stereo. “William Daaaaarling, can you make me sound Just Like This? Thank you, daaaaarling.”

Beth Orton & William Orbit – Yesterday’s Gone.mp3

Hey, thanks for posting in my MP3 LiveJournal. I like your musical tastes. I’ll have to add you to my personal blog-roll. Hopefully, you can find some positive things at my place.
Thanks for the Beth Orton. I would not have made the Madonna connection myself, although I know she stole the song “Ray Of Light” from an old psychedelia piece called “Sepheryn,” which I’ve unfortunately never been able to track down.
